Indo restaurants

This is my first article, I would like to share about Indonesian restaurants in Sydney but of course not all of them. I would like to share restaurants that I have tried before and afterwards I will always update this article if I have try a new restaurant or added new information for particular cuisine in there.

What I have found in Sydney is interesting, we can found many Indonesian foods like pempek, ayam goreng, mi tek2, and so on. I think the taste is great even the price is more expensive if we compare it with the price in Indonesia itself.

CITY AREA

Shalom restaurant

Address: 155 Broadway
Sydney NSW 2000
Phone : (02) 9211 2353

I think most of Indonesian people love spicy food, this restaurant is highly recommended for you if you are spicy food lover. The price range is between $8-$15. My favourite one in Shalom is "Ayam bumbu Bali". But Shalom also has other indonesian style like "Empal", "soto", "batagor bandung", and so on.

In my experienced, this is the first Indonesian restaurant I have tried in Sydney. I think its very hard to find chilli sauce in Sydney even in KFC and McDonalds, but Shalom can provide you with great chilli taste.

You should try this one in Sydney.

KINGSFORD AREA (Indonesian city in Sydney)

Ayam Goreng 99

This is one of my favourite restaurant in Sydney, as its name their speciality is in "Ayam goreng" or we can call it fried chicken in english. But remember it is not "KFC" style but this is Indonesian style fried chicken. In some way it reminds me of "Ayam goreng pemuda" in Indo...lol.

Pinangsia noodle

Address :319 Anzac ParadeKingsford NSW 2032
Phone :(02) 9697 0788

I do really like combination of "bakso goreng" or fried meat ball with "mi goreng tek2" in Pinangsia noodle. I don't really have comment for this restraurant maybe you should try it by yourself. They have many types of food so you can choose your favourite Indonesian food with cheap price (don't convert it into rupiah because it will become scary price) as well.

Shalom restaurant

This is another Shalom restaurant which is located in Kingsford area, maybe we can call it Shalom 2. This is evidence about their success story, because they can open another store and compete with so many indonesian restaurants in Kingsford. I haven't try Shalom 2 yet, but I think the quality should be similar with Shalom city.

Fajar restaurant

Address: 394 Anzac Pde
Kingsford NSW 2032
Phone: (02) 9662 0736

In my opinion their speciality is in "Nasi goreng" or fried rice. It is really taste like Indonesian fried rice and the price is cheap as well. I went their several times and I always eat their "nasi goreng" and also they can cook and serve customers very quick. So if you are in a rush and you feel hungry you should go to Fajar.

MASCOT AREA

Buck-Me restaurant

Address :903 Botany Road, Mascot, NSW 2020
Phone: (02) 9667 2004

This is one of famous Indonesian restaurant in Sydney. Buck-Me (read:bakmi) in Indonesian means noodle, so it's obvious that their speciality is in noodle. My favourite in this restaurant is their pork noodle. Their noodle can remind you with Indonesian taste of noodle but I think still better than "bakmi abang2 pinggir jalan". But mascot is quite far from city area, but if you have time and feel hungry you can try Buck-Me because you will never disappointed with their noodles. I would say the price is reasonable and not expensive as well.

KENSINGTON AREA

Pondok Buyung

Address: 124 Anzac Parade
Kensington NSW 2033
Phone :(02) 9663 2296

This is the best padang restaurant in Sydney, you can choose several types of padang food. I have conversation with foreigners or "bule", most of them said that the best Indonesia food is Padang. Hmmm, are you agree with them?

If you are agree with them you must try this restaurant then. You can choose like 3 dishes with a very cheap price like $7.5 - $10 or maybe you can order from their menu as well. In my opinion, the foods are really tasty and some of them is spicy as well like a typical Padang spicy style.
